Sharing what we heard: New Open Space Master Plan report available
Thank you to those who shared their feedback about parks and open spaces in Strathcona County! Your feedback will be used to create the draft Open Space Master Plan, as well as an implementation and funding strategy to guide the future of open spaces in the County.
Thank you to all who completed the visioning survey throughout the summer. Throughout this phase of engagement, we heard that residents’ vision for the future of open spaces in Strathcona County is centered around accessibility, access to nature, and function as welcoming and safe community spaces. County residents have a strong appreciation for local or regional trail systems in the County and enjoy having opportunities for active recreation, such as outdoor sports and youth play.
Throughout all the engagement activities that took place in 2024 for the OSMP, the below key themes emerged:
- Enhancing the system: the community appreciates that our open space system is accessible, natural and connected. In the future, the community would like to see these elements emphasized and enhanced.
- Navigating trade-offs with growth: the community shared ideas for new amenities and facilities they would like to see, while also citing they do not want new opportunities to compromise natural parks and open spaces.
- All-season use: the community shared amenities and operations that could enhance their use and enjoyment of open spaces year-round.
