Commercial Waste Engagement
Are you a business owner or operator?
Strathcona County is looking for feedback as we explore waste diversion in the commercial sector. Your input will be used to develop a waste diversion program for businesses.
Were you aware that Industrial, commercial and Institutional (ICI) waste makes up almost 50% of the waste stream in Strathcona County?
During engagement for Strathcona County’s Waste Management Roadmap, the County heard from businesses that they have different waste management needs that come with different challenges. Participating businesses will have the chance to influence the development of future diversion strategies, incentives and regulatory requirements for the commercial sector.
Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Session
Commercial Food Rescue and Waste Diversion
Learn about the recent food rescue and organic waste pilot project. Led by the Circular Innovation Council, this short-term pilot hosted in Strathcona County explored ways to divert more waste from landfill.
The pilot determined waste management barriers, motivations and cost considerations for businesses. As part of the pilot surplus edible food is directed to local social agencies while other organic waste is collected to be turned into compost for local farms.
