Strathcona County Utilities wants to learn whether residents notice odours from the Ardrossan Wastewater Facility and, if so, the extent to which those odours bother them. Residents of Ardrossan will also be asked about their level of support, for an additional monthly utility charge, for potential odour-mitigation measures. These measures would not eliminate the issue, but should reduce the most offensive odours.

Background Information:

The Ardrossan wastewater facility site is located west of Range Road 222 across from the Ecole Ardrossan. It contains three wastewater holding ponds and two lift stations which contain pumps and control systems that monitor and manage the flow of wastewater.

Rural wastewater facilities such as the one in Ardrossan can generate unpleasant odours from time to time. While the odour from the wastewater facility can be unpleasant, it is intermittent and does not represent a public health and safety concern.
