    Heart health in Strathcona County

    Creating a healthy and safe community is a priority for Strathcona County. Across Canada, roughly 35,000 cardiac arrests happen every year to people of all ages, including kids and teens. Most incidents happen at home or in public, and less than 10 per cent of people survive on average because it’s unexpected, bystanders don’t act or medical help doesn’t arrive in time.  
     
    When bystanders take action, the chances of surviving cardiac arrest can double, triple or increase five-fold. By knowing CPR, and by responding immediately when someone needs medical help, we can make our community safer and healthier for everyone.

    This quick survey will help us understand a little bit more about our community's knowledge of CPR and cardiac arrest. The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete.


    Definitions:

    Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving method people can use that helps the heart pump blood through the body.  

    An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that can detect abnormal heart rhythms and can deliver a shock to a heart that needs it, restoring a normal heart rhythm.
